Of course The Thing is my fave, but I love Halloween a lot, too. They're both important films in horror history. And they're both just fucking excellent.
Here's to Johnuary 2026! Any idea of the films you might watch?
The lists gif 😆😆😆. You know I love those lists. The Thing is definitely, hands down, my favorite. It's one of my all-time favorite horror films, so it wasn't really a competition. Benning's transformation scene with the scream and the hands was so unsettling, and you described it really well in the review. I always enjoy your work, but I feel like you really shone in your Johnuary writeups. That grammar feels off... but you get what I mean!
Thanks! I didn't feel like it was my best work so that means a lot. Descriptive language is in many ways how I learnt to write, so that adds up. Benning's transformation was a formative horror moment for me, as it was for a thousand others.
A TMA POST WOULD BE SO GREAT (I’ve been thinking about making one myself once I have enough time to figure out a good thematic analysis and such and such)
Thanks for the reference. It’s really nice ❤️ /gen
Gotta respect those rankings, though I've always preferred Prince of Darkness (pure cheese) and Big Trouble in Little China as my 2 favorite Carpenter movies, even though Big Trouble was a huge departure. Honorable mention to They Live

Super significant, and excellent indeed. I'm really not sure what I might cover! One to reflect one I think.

Supplemental: I sure did have a darn John time 👍🏼
You should do a TMA series- you know the audience is out there!
I sure do, but in MY audience I think it's only a few people lol. What would I write about?

You should definitely do one!

I do like Big Trouble, though it's a long time since I've seen it!
Great review Harry, looking forward to reading your next
Thanks - Ray Harryhausen films this month :)
Yes! I'll be here!
