Wartide - A Poem
An Experimental Piece
Very kindly Cedric agreed to provide a voice for this poem. He is a talented poet himself, and I strongly recommend his work - I’ve linked a personal favourite of mine here.
Thanks again for your excellent rendition.
This poem was written in 2020.
I hope you enjoy.
I think back to the letter that I wrote,
And then,
Crack!
And suddenly I’m drowning in smoke,
With teeth at my throat,
Hear that?
The thunder of the guns,
Any one of the bullets might strike me, collide, and decide on my fate,
I wait, breath bated, debating escape, while above me the blood seeps thick, and the soil is sated,
Stained, I remain, and the pain will go on, they have wronged the wrong men and we long for the song to be over,
We strike back, again and again, we attack and divide,
But inside I think (Crack!) of the letter,
It could’ve been better.
As ever, thanks for reading,
Until next time,
H.E.
