A dedicated monthly post not about Horror.
For my paid non-horror post this month, a series of poems I wrote at University.
For this assignment in particular, I had to write a themed set, totalling 60-90 lines, including titles. They were to engage with specific, basic poetic techniques - alliteration, assonance (as well as consonance and sibilance), syllabics, repetition, and dramatic monologue.
I’ve retained the syllable count next to each line for this post.
I chose to write about the Ancient Greek stories, because they’re sick, and because they adapt nicely into poetry. I chose the tale of the hunt for Medusa, the tragic story of Orpheus and Eurydice, and the adventures of Nobody and the Cyclops. All the exciting ones.
Gotta say before we get into it, I was a teenager here, so they’re a little shaky. But fuck it! It’s a bit of fun. Hope you enjoy!
The Hunt
Pacing, seeking, 4
Gaze locked skyward, 4
All around him, 4
Stone is dancing, 4
Twisted figures, 4
Stand about him, 4
Head in hands, 3
Grey eyes widened, 4
On he paces, 3
Grey steel gleaming, 4
Bloody-handed, 4
On he searches, 4
Seeking blindly, 4
For a monster, 4
Clutching, reaching 4
Craving vengeance. 4
