The Power of Tarot
And the Power of Suggestion
Now I’m no expert, but I do own a couple of decks. I’ve had an interest in Tarot for going on 6 years or so, but I haven’t had much opportunity to provide readings since I was in college.

This post is gonna focus less on the clairvoyant nature of the cards, though I have had at least one or two readings which turned out spookily accurate, and more on the power they hold as a wellbeing tool. I will admit, before we start, that I do have my own little rituals for readings, like placing opalite on the cards, and dealing with my left hand.
To read for someone is an intimate activity. You can go in both expecting nonsense, and have fun with it - assuming the worst of every card, allowing negative cards (if you flip them upright and they’re upside down), or whatever else you want to do to make it more fun. However, it’s far more valuable to really consider what they reveal to you.
You can investigate what you’re apprehensive about, what there is to look forward to, and what you could do should a crisis occur. It can be an opportunity to look at what you need right now, or what you might need in the future. It can almost be used as a journaling tool.
It occurs to me on occasion that it is very easy for people to prey on the insecurity or anxiety of those they read for, allowing them to self-fulfil their worst fears and worries. The one holding the cards takes up a powerful position, and it should be used responsibly. You can shift people’s mindsets, perspectives, and actions through how you interpret the cards. It is all too easy to dramatize or manipulate the Major Arcana.
For me personally, I prefer to read for people I know well. That way the readings are more relevant, and I’m not just offering vague fortune cookie advice. ‘Change is coming’ - when isn’t it?
On a different note, my personal favourite card is Death. As someone who doesn’t exactly love change, I appreciate the reminder that sometimes it is unavoidable, and sometimes it can even be a good thing. Closure, growth, movement, all words that I associate with this card.
As a final aside, if anyone knows anything about runes, please put something in the comments. I own some, but I’ve never really understood them.
Anyway,
As ever,
Thanks for reading,
Until next time,
H.E.

It's cool that you have your own rituals for doing readings, how did those come about?
