Collaboration at Hellish Views
Showcasing a wide range of superb writers.
This article is all about the growing number of collaborations Hellish Views has been getting involved in! Consider this post a showcase, both of my own writing across 2026, but also of the hard work of others with whom I’ve worked with.
It is my absolute pleasure to shout out these excellent writers.
My first ever writing collaboration was with Jamie B. in our Johnuary project. Together, we tackled an absolute classic cosmic horror, In The Mouth of Madness.
Here are Parts 1 and 2 for your enjoyment!
We also wrote about The Old Dark House in two parts later in the year, which I knew would be a banger (and it was). Jamie is the BEST at finding screencaps for reviews, and every article ends up looking polished and stylish in a way I always aspire to.
Jamie does some really fantastic work. I’d say that a great starting place to check out would be the Universal horror reviews, which several other horror writers also got involved in. I’d also strongly recommend this essay on The Thing (1982). Few people get as excited about The Thing (1982) and the enthusiasm is infectious.
Next we move on to Molly O'Blivion. I am sure you’ve all seen our Star Trek stuff, and lucky for you, I already collated a list on our most recent review here! Each article we cover an episode each, investigating the spookier elements.
When it comes to Molly you are spoilt for choice at what to read. That said, Cultography is where her love (serious passion) for Jeffrey Combs comes out, and it is seriously fun. I also enjoyed the piece on Chud II - which I really need to get around to watching. But really, if you’re a horror fan, I borderline insist that you check out her writing.
Our next collaborator is Rosie, my lovely girlfriend. She and I watched Fright Night (1985) recently and it was a fucking blast. I cannot tell you how pleased I was to write a horror movie review with her. She’d also contributed her score to my very brief review of Heart Eyes (2025), which we also watched together. Anyway, me and her will be collaborating again soonish on some non-horror media, so keep an eye out! She’s a brilliant writer.
Rosie posts some great horror reviews, but she also writes a wide range of other things! Her article on the National Gallery is a very nice read, for instance. She also releases wonderful poetry and fiction, which I strongly recommend investigating. Her page is a great source of variety, which I feel we need more of in online spaces that reward one-note content.
It was a brilliant time writing about Undertone with none other than Pale Horse🩸, L Binnie. We were on the Horror Hangouts podcast together (awesome show, go check it out, as well as Horror Hangouts’ Substack) and worked together on this not too long afterwards!
Laura consistently writes horror gold. From fiction to essays, whatever you choose to read, you can be sure it will completely capture you. I personally love the Horror and Tarot posts, of which there are several.
I had a great time indulging my inner nerd writing about Game of Thrones with Pakes on Film. He’d already written a great GoT post when I reached out about collaborating, and I was thrilled with what we ended up with.
Pakes is prolific, and writes about all manner of movies. I absolutely love how much genre diversity there is on his page, and this post on Over the Garden Wall really highlights this. This is a film critic who’s studied their field and is building a splendid portfolio.
My most recent collaboration is with Amy. Together, we cover Wolf Creek (2005), a grim and unnerving Australian horror. Very excited about it - Amy touches on some fascinating (and quite horrible) stuff!
Amy writes a series entitled Final Girl Diaries, and honestly I suggest you read all of them. They are on top of recent updates in the horror scene, and are not only well-researched, but are positively bursting with personality.
Something I really want to highlight also are my three interviews. Not quite professional yet (perhaps one day, eh?), but I think these are some extremely interesting pieces:
The eponymous non-horror fan in the above is none other than the individual who got me started on Substack, matt hatter. His page is a mixture of poetry and musings on life. It’s very different to most of what I read, but it’s always a pleasure to visit.
He’s also one of three wonderful people who have provided a voiceover for one of my poems. Cedric did a very strong performance of Wartide, matt hatter, who is an all-time out-loud poetry orator, recited Walpurgisnacht, and the talented Meditations On Permafrost delivered an unforgettable read of The Arrival.
Cedric is a wildly underrated poet, and as if that’s not enough he does film reviews too! Last Rites is an intense and memorable poem of his, but honestly they’re all sick.
Meditations on Permafrost is one of my all time favourite poets, and, more recently, historical fiction writers. His short stories about the build up to the destruction of Carthage are indescribably gripping, and his Biblical poetry is superb.
So ends my collaborations list, so far! I definitely have a few more ideas, and people, in mind. Please reach out if you wanna write together, because I’ve had a lot of fun talking to and working alongside all these wonderful people.
